Arbitrator awards agreement between city and Waterloo Professional Fire Fighters Association (WPFFA) members

Waterloo - An independent arbitrator has awarded a three-year agreement between the city and WPFFA. The WPFFA represents 116 members including fire fighters, fire prevention officers, and some building department staff at the City of Waterloo. The new agreement covers January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2017.

The parties have been attempting to negotiate an agreement since November 2015. Following an exchange of proposals the parties moved to conciliation, followed by mediation and finally an arbitration meeting on June 28, 2017.

“We accept the arbitration award and the city remains committed to striving for equity and cost containment with all of our employee groups,” said Chief Richard Hepditch. “Members of our fire services and rescue department provide an important service and we do appreciate what they do for our community.”

The arbitrator awarded Waterloo firefighters a 7.68 per cent increase in wages over three years (2.75 for 2015, 2.48 for 2016 and 2.26 for 2017).
